Day 5 - Sun 12/30/18 - Rome

So I started the day with the lens falling off the camera in front of the Vatican.  Collecting photos from the pilgrims.  Here's a start...

We kicked off the day with an early breakfast and a 7:30am Mass at the tomb of St. Peter.  After Mass, the pilgrims had the rest of the morning to explore St. Peter's Basilica, pray and, if they liked... to climb 500+ steps to the dome of St. Peter's!  We then were gifted with an unexpected schedule addition - joining the Pope for the Angelus in St. Peter's Square!  After that we visited the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls, had some free time to grab lunch, spent time at Santa Croce in Gerusalemme (Antonietta Meo - an amazing 6 yr old Venerable, and praying in front of wood from the Cross, nails and thorns of Christ's crown of thorns), climbing the holy stairs on our knees at Scala Sancta, visiting St. John Lateran and then the Church and Museum of the Holy Souls of Purgatory, closing the day with dinner a rosary walk and gelato!

More photos coming!

  1. It occurs to me that as beautiful as the art and architecture of the church is, as inspiring as its history and the sanctity of those saints from past, the most wonderful thing in all these pictures is seeing the living faith continuing for the present and future through our youth. Though half a globe away and 2000 years distant from the biblical, historical Christ, He yet lives here and now in them.

Thank you for this trip and for documenting it for us left behind in southern Maryland.
